Our Story

WHO WE ARE?

We believe that each of us holds the power to make the world around us a better place. By creating thoughtfully designed socks, we are not only telling a story the world needs to hear, but we're making an impact with the way that we give back: $1 from each pair will go to a non-profit organization that supports the cause we’re shouting out on the socks.

We’ve turned our creative focus towards using our socks to spark conversations about the world around us and disrupting the way that consumers think of and talk about fashion!

We are endeavoring to create a community of inspiring individuals who think globally and act locally.

HOW WE DO IT

Here at Cicada, our design process starts with finding ways to talk about the topics we believe that people can affect positively, the things that matter to us the most.

For example, our air pollution socks’ design came from our concern about dealing with an invisible problem surrounding us. The idea of using the shoe as an element to hide the whole picture came from our belief that we’re not seeing the entire picture when it comes to pollution! With this simple design choice, big change can even come from a small action, like removing your shoe.

In each design, we put deep thought into the compositions and every detail so the story will be told in the most visually pleasing and effective way. We’re challenging the knitting technology by the richness of colors we use, the specification of graphics right down to the pixel level, and the creation of complexed/developed gradients.

OUR NAME

Cicada is a bug that can be as small as 2 inches but has a voice louder than a lion’s roar. It’s a sound they use the most when emerging from their hibernation every 17 years. At Cicada, we have a loud voice too, and we’d like to share it with the world.

Cicadas are a perfect example of small things rising from the bottom and coming together to make a big impact.
